You might think because of its size that baby corn is grown from miniature corn plants, but it’s actually just the developing sweetcorn cob which has been picked before becoming starchy and maturing out.

The babycorn has healthy amounts of fibre. Getting more fiber in your diet offers a number of health benefits, including a lower risk of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Fibre in foods such as baby corn can help keep you feeling full thus reducing the desire to eat between meals. Plus it is an easy food to persuade children to eat.  Simply rinse and enjoy as is or cooked.

A tender, young version of sweetcorn that is especially popular in Oriental-style dishes. The whole cob can be eaten. Easily prepared by washing and trimming thicker ends, can be cooked whole or cut into pieces. Baby corn can be eaten raw (added to salads etc.) or cooked in stir-fries to make a colourful healthy meal. Baby corn can be stir-fried or steamed. To stir-fry, heat 1 tbsp. olive or sunflower oil in a frying pan or wok and cook for 3-4 minutes or until just cooked.
